Join us👆at the Tamegroute Pottery Co-operative in Morocco, where we worked the mud clay and took a spin on the a foot spun pottery wheels! After throwing a few bowls, we watched as the wood fire ovens were prepared. We learned that before the pottery even enters the ovens, it has to lay out in the sun for a week!

Our floaties have begun their journey to Morocco! 🇲🇦 We travelled from Casablanca ➡️ Marrakesh 🚌 and stopped for a…you guessed it - a tasty tagine 🥘. After lunch, we drove through the High Atlas Mountains, pausing to take in the Tizi n'Tichka Pass ⛰️. Did you know, this peak is about 2260m high?! That’s more than 50x the height of the @alexandervhumboldt2 mast! 😮

Our students just finished their FIRST sail!!! Their two-week journey took them through the English Channel, the Celtic Sea and the Bay of Biscay before arriving in Porto, Portugal (🇵🇹) earlier this week! Now, if you haven’t heard…😏 We’re sailing on a German (🇩🇪) ship, (hello @alexandervhumboldt2 💚) which MEANS…we’re picking up a few (a lot 😅) of German-lingo - especially sailing terms. SO we’re challenging past, present and (eager) future floaties (and friends and family of course - EVERBODY) to see WHICH sailing terms (in German) you can spot from this word search! ⬆️⬆️⬆️

The COUNTDOWN is ON! We’re counting down the days until we climb aboard the @alexandervhumboldt2! Based in Bremerhaven, the Alex-2 is a Class A tall ship built in 2011. Used primarily sail training, the Alex-2 has visited numerous ports near and far along the Atlantic Ocean and surrounding seas. We’ll be seeing this beauty for the first time in just a few days! On September 30th, we observe the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, commonly referred to as ‘Orange Shirt Day.’ This day is named in tribute to Phyllis Webstad, a member of the Northern Secwepemc community, who proudly donned an orange shirt on her first day of school. Orange Shirt Day stands as a powerful symbol and advocate for the principle of ‘Every Child Matters.’ It serves as a poignant reminder of the systemic injustices that have deprived Indigenous children and communities of their culture, freedom, and self-esteem across generations.

Our @acadiau Marine Biology students jumped right into their studies this week, taking a real look into the anatomy and physiology of different types of fish! While travelling, we try to incorporate as much hands-on learning as possible! Giving students these opportunities allows them to safely make mistakes and learn organically through trial and error. We naturally learn through mistakes, so why not take advantage of that in our school studies?!
